7 Tips for First-Time Visitors to the Maldives

The Maldives is on the list of most spectacular places on this planet. If you are planning a trip to the Maldives, we suggest that you consider a few important tips, especially if you are a first time visitor.

1. Don’t worry about Money

Although visiting the Maldives can be a bit expensive, know that this will be a once in a lifetime experience. If you continue to worry about money, you won’t enjoy your trip. Therefore, we suggest that you set your budget before you go there.

2. Get an Insight into the Local Life

It is great to have an insight into local life while you are there in the Maldives. These islands are home to more than 400 thousand people. Until 2009, outsiders had to apply for a permit in order to visit known resort islands. This restriction was lifted after 2009. Today, several islands can be visited without getting a permit. You can even stay overnight on these islands.

3. Don’t have Alcohol on Inhabited Islands

In the Maldives, most of the population is Muslim. Therefore, there are strict rules as far as the availability and consumption of alcohol are concerned. As a tourist, you cannot carry alcohol into the Maldives or drink it on inhabited islands. However, if you want to have a drink, you can go to the resorts as they have a license to serve alcohol.

4. Dress Modestly

On inhabited islands, make sure you follow their dress code. You can’t wear shorts whether you are a man or a woman. If you are a woman, you have to cover your elbows and shoulders. Besides your clothing should be loose-fitting.

Similarly, couples cannot show affection for each other in public places. However, you can wear whatever you want when you are inside your room.

5. Invest in a Good Underwater Camera

While in the Maldives, you may feel like diving in the beautiful oceans. Therefore, if you want to try some water sports, you are free to do it. While diving, you may want to have some great shots while underwater. For this, you may want to invest in a quality underwater camera.

6. Get a Lightweight Outfit

In some islands, you may have some freedom as far as the dress code is concerned. For example, women can wear casual dresses. With this in mind, make sure you take a pair of lightweight trousers with you, especially if you want to dine at a restaurant on one of these islands.

Even if you don’t want to eat out, packing a lightweight output is a stroke of genius. Having these outfits is a great idea.

7. Weather Conditions

If you want to enjoy the best weather in the Maldives, we suggest that you go there between November and April. The peak season is between December and March. You can’t predict the weather if you go there at the beginning of May. The rain does not last very long and the temperature is almost always warm in summer.

We hope that these tips will help you get the most out of your trip.
