Gore-Tex Leather Outfits – New Hot Thing in Motorcycling

The hottest thing in motorcycling apparel right now is Gore-Tex leather suits. Before there were only textiles with waterproof liners and leather users had to get their rain suits on or get soaked. For this season though, couple of manufacturers have came up with waterproof leathers. Because nobody has these suits yet, there’s not much info out of them yet, mostly just the press releases and sales talks.

A lot of speculation has been around about how well these suits hold out water and especially about how well they breathe. Manufacturers say that the suits remove the need for separate rain suits altogether. The first maker to release their suit was Rukka. They have the Lancelot two-piece suit with the Gore-Tex membrane. Alpinestars have also came up with their series called 365, it’s a two-piece suit as well, and under the same name you can find a pair of waterproof gloves.

These new suits would definitely go with the big sport touring motorbikes that are getting more and more popular all the time. Bikes like the Kawasaki Concours 14, Yamaha FJR1300 and especially the new, sporty Honda VFR1200. Leather combined with waterproofing is very cool because you no longer have to compromise between wearing a tear resistant suit that doesn’t hold water (leather) or a less safe waterproof suit (textile).

The price of these suits is still ridiculously high, the Alpinestars jacket and pants comes up to over $2000, but hopefully there’s a couple of daredevils who will buy these suits for the upcoming season, and then write reviews of them. The price is surely going to come down in a couple of years as these become more popular.
